Danish Institute for Sports Studies

The Danish Institute for Sports Studies (Idrættens Analyseinstitut) is an independent research centre set up by the Danish Ministry of Culture.

The primary objective of The Danish Institute for Sports Studies is to enhance and develop a broad range of social science research projects in the field of sports. Furthermore, the aim of the Institute is to analyse political initiatives regarding the world of sports and stimulate public debate around central questions related to these initiatives.

The Institute is lead by a board of seven members assigned by the Danish Minister of Culture. The daily activities are managed by the chief executive, Henrik H. Brandt.

The central tasks are:

to give insight into the relation between sports, culture and society

to create a general overview of relevant research on a national as well an international level

to take on research and evaluation projects of importance in relation to the development of sport

to asses the implications of political initiatives related to field of sports

to communicate insights and knowledge to the public in a straight forward and relevant manner

to ask critical questions concerning the development of sports policy and enhance public debate in the light of the most recent research results

The Danish Institute for Sports Studies has a basic funding of 4.013 million kroner per year (2010-11) from the Ministry of Culture. Moreover, commissioned research projects will be part of the monetary funding of the Danish Institute of Sport Studies. The institute has a close co-operation with the Institute for Sport Science & Clincial Biomechanics at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense as well as other Danish research institutions.

To nye fitnessrapporter Idan har offentliggjort de to delrapporter i projektet 'Sundhed for millioner', der portrætterer de aktive fitnesskunder og undersøger potentialet i et tættere kommunalt samarbejde med private fitnesscentre. Program for nordisk idrætstopmøde Programmet for den hidtil mest ambitiøse nordiske idrætskonference og messe for idræts- og badefaciliteter er nu offentliggjort.
